Flying
Three airports service the New York City area: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
From JFK:
-
The cheapest but most time-consuming way to get to Manhattan from JFK is by taking the AirTrain (free from within but $5.00 USD if entering the airport) to either the Jamaica or Howard Beach stations, purchasing a MetroCard (there is a $1.00 fee for a new card), and then taking the A Train to Manhattan. Please click on this link to read more details about this method.
-
If you decide to take a taxi, the flat fare is $52.00, but after tolls and tip, expect to pay around $70-80 USD.
-
You can also make arrangements through many other authorized airport vehicle services.
From LGA:
-
While the smallest of the three NYC airports, LGA is, however, the closest to the Teachers College (TC) campus and so is the most accessible by bus. The MTA's M60 bus passes right by TC and each trip is an affordable $2.50 USD with an MTA MetroCard (but $2.75 for every SingleRide ticket). Also be aware that you may transfer free from local bus-to-subway, subway-to-local bus or local bus-to-local bus within two hours of the time you paid your fare!
-
If you decide to take a taxi, expect to pay anywhere from $26-34 USD before tolls and tip.
-
Other transportation options can be found on the LGA Ground Transportation page
From EWR:
-
The most affordable way to get to Manhattan from EWR involves taking the AirTrain (free if you are already in the airport but $5.50 USD if you are going to the airport) to the New Jersey Transit's Newark Airport Rail Station. From there, you can take the NJ Transit train to New York Penn Station, where a one-way ticket costs about $12.50 USD.
-
Taxi service to and from EWR to Manhattan is generally very expensive, costing between $97-102 (+$17.50 surcharge) USD, and this does not yet include tolls and tip.
-
Other transportation options can be found on the EWR Ground Transportation page
